French generals question drone advantage

August 14, 2024
French Army Chief of Staff Pierre Scheer stated during his visit to the 2024 European International Defense Exhibition that the advantage of fpv drone in warfare will no longer exist in 10 years.Scheer analyzed the performance of drones in current local conflicts and believed that due to the relatively lagging development of anti fpv drone systems, there are opportunities for fpv drones to take advantage of. With the rapid development of anti drone capabilities, this situation will change. For example, the TB-2 hollow long endurance UAV produced in Türkiye has been eye-catching in local conflicts, but with the improvement of its jamming and countermeasures, it is difficult for the aircraft to play an important role again.
Analysts say that Scheer's remarks cannot yet draw conclusions about the development of drones. The development speed of drones is extremely fast, and currently it is not the ultimate form. In recent local conflicts, 80% of destruction tasks have been completed by FPV drones, which had not yet appeared in large numbers on the battlefield eight months ago. Currently, countries are developing drone swarms equipped with artificial intelligence technology to enhance their ability to autonomously form, automatically identify, and strike targets in strong electromagnetic interference environments. The future development of drone and anti drone technology is still unknown.
